NAZI BID FOR VILLAGE REPELLED

R.A.F. PLANES AGAIN OVER GERMANY (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Nov. 2. 12 noon.) LONDON, Nov. 1., Messages from Paris state that the guns in the Siegfried Line to-day roared into tlie most consistent action of the war. It is believed the artillery activity might herald the start of a big-scale offensive. The French repelled 1000 Uermans who were trying to surround a village in the noil hern sector of the Western Front, The official French communique issued this morning, however, stated: “There was reduced activity during the night.” The British Air Ministry has announced that Royal Air Force planes in the last 24 hours made further successful reconnaissance’ flights over north-Western Germany, taking photographs. All the planes returned. The Petit Parisien says that the British are becoming more and more numerous in France and material more abundant. The British 'effort in transporting troops could only be described as fantastic. A German communique issued in Berlin asserts that six enemy planes, of which four were British, were shot down on the Western Front and the North Sea on October 30.
