COASTAL TRADE The Kopara arrived at Gisborne this morning from Portland, Auckland and Tolaga Bay. The ship departs this afternoon lor Napier and later returns to Portland and Auckland. The Margaret W. readied Gisborne at 4.45 a.m. to-day from Auckland and it is booed to dispatch her tonight lor Tokomaru Bay and Auckland. The Pukeko loads at Lyftelion today and at Wellington to-morrow and on" Saturday tor Napier, Waikokopu. Gisborne and the Coast. The shipj arrives hero next Tuesday. The Wainui, with southern cargo. is to be dispatched from Napier today for Gisborne. On completion of discharge and loading here to-morrow the vessel is to sail for Duncdin, where she is to commence loading for Gisborne and Napier.

The Kiwiten is expected to arrive ai Napier to-day from Groymouth, and is due at Gisborne about Tuesday next (o discharge eoal, timber and posts. COSTLY SALVAGE EFFORTS It is estimated that more than £IOO,OOO has been spent in an effort to salvage the Port Bowen. which is stranded on the CastleclifT Beach, Wanganui, and save the valuable cargo of frozen meat, butter and choose which was .aboard her. The saving of the cargo justified the expense gone to. What is to become of the vessel is still a matter of speculation.
