SCOUT NOTES
VISIT OF COMMISSIONER BUSY WEEK-END BADGES PRESENTED By "Scouter" Scouting generally lias received a fillip over the last few days by the visit to Gisborne of the chief commissioner for New Zealand, Mr. Hector Christie. It certainly was a very busy week-end for the visitor, as well as for those interested in the Scout movement in the district On Friday evening the chief commissioner met the patrol leaders at 7 p.in., at 8 p.m. he met the members of the respective troop committees, at I) p.m. the Rovers and Scouters. On Saturday there was a combined Cub parade at 2.30 p.m., a parade of Sea Scouts at 3.15 p.m., and a trip on the river. The same evening a combined Scout parade and badge presentation took place at 7.30 p.m. On Sunday morning a visit was paid to the camping ground, and tiie chic!' commissioner returned to town in time for the church parade. He had a short respite in the afternoon, and then a River investitature during the evening. The presentation of badges was made by the chief commissioner, who complimented the following boys on gaining their King's Scout Badge:—Justin Phillips, Phillip Balfour, William Elliott, Herbert Judge, Thos Powell, of the Y.M.C.A. Troop, Harry Hanlcey and Robert Mortimer, of the Sea Scouts Troop. Ambulance badges were presented to J. Phillios, P. Balfour. C. Booth, W. Elliott, 11. Judge, T. Powell, M. Sandlant, H. Hankey, E. Nelson, R. Mortimer, J. Primrose, and R. Parkinson. Cords were oresented to B. Judge. G. Judge, W. Elliott, P. Balfour, R. Mortimer, and H. Hankey. Other badges were presented qs follows:—Missions Badge: G. Judge, and i 3. Balfour. Pathfinders: D. Milligan, >-I. Hankey, R. Mortimer. Mick Scott and W. McWhirter. Cooks: P. Harris and C. Booth.
Cyclist: M. Scott and J. Primrose. Firemen: .1. Stevens. D. ii/lilligan, M. Scott, and IT. Hankey. Entertainer: R. Parkinson. Interpreter: G. Judge. Doing Their Bit In some tmall measure the Gisborne Scouts have- been doing their best to he of some use to other.s since this country has declared war. and are happy in doing anything that, however small, is likely to afford help to people. At the same time we arc training our lads to help in case of an emergency, and should the need arise, I feel sure that they will do their part. This evening the Y.M.C.A. Scout troop court of honour will be held at 7 o'clock. Leadens and seconds are requested to attend, as there arc important matters to discuss. A full muster would be appreciated by the Scoutmaster. A full attendance of scouters also is asked tor on the evening of Tuesday, November 1, when a final talk on the camp will be given. It. is hoped that every scouter, both senior and junior, will attend. The Y.M.C.A. Troop will meet as usual at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
