PORT OF GISBORNE YESTERDAY’S DEPARTURES Pukeko, m.v., 5.20 p.m., 742 ton?, S M. Petlcy, for Lyttelton. VESSELS DUE AT GISBORNE Kopara, Auckland, to-morrow. Margaret W., Auckland, to-morrow. Wainui, southern ports, Friday. Pukeko, Lyttelton and Wellington, November 7. Kiwitea, Grevmouth, November 7. COASTAL TRADE The Pukeko left Gisborne last evening for Lyttelton, where she will load to-morrow for Napier, Waikokopu, Gisborne and the Coast. The ship completes at Wellington on Saturday and returns to Gisborne next Tuesday.
The Kopara left Auckland at 5 p.m. vesterday for Const bays, Gisborne and Napier. The vessel works this port to-morrow. The Margaret W. was dispatched from Auckland last night for Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay and Gisborne The vessel is due here to-morrow morning and should sail in the evening for Auckland. The Wainui, from South Island ports and Wellington, is now at Napier. The steamer departs to-mor-row for Gisborne and works here on Friday, sailing thence for Dunedin. The vessel will omit Wellington on the journey south, and at Dunedin she will commence loading again for Gisborne and Napier. The Kiwitea, which was barbouno at GreymouJh for several days, cleared there at noon yesterday and is due at Napier on Friday and at Gisborne on Tuesday. The vessel lias coal, timber and posts.
WARNING TO MARINERS
Doubtless as a necessary war precaution mariners are notified in the Gazette that a large number of coastal lights may be extinguished at any time without further notice. Nearly 50 lights are mentioned, extending from the North Cape to the Bluff, and thev include the lights on Flat Rock, Devonport Sandspit, Ponui Pass and several in the Thames area.
NEW DANISH MOTOR-SHIP The Nakshov Shipyard Company, Nakshov, who launched the motor vessel Korea recently for the East Asiatic Company, Copenhagen, has contracted with the same company for a new Diesel cargo liner to replace (lie motor vessel Alsia, which was wrecked in the Indian Ocean last May. The new vessel will be very fast and about 10,000 tons deadweight, with accommodation for 50 passengers. She will be delivered in 1940.
RUMANIAN SHIPPING
The Rumanian merchant fleet, apart from the new construction, according to an official report, consists of 20 ships of 58,204 gross register tons, 14 of which are owned by the Societe Maritime Roumain and the remainder privately. Of the foreign trade in 1936, about 87 per cent was carried by water, but only 8 per cent in Rumanian ships. For this service the freights paid to foreign ship-owners amounted to £6,900,000, or five milliards lei.
