PROVISION OF FLATS CONTRARY TO BY-LAWS At last evening’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council a letter was received from the Gisborne Fire Board drawing the council’s attention to the council’s action in granting a permit for the division of Mr. S. If. Phillips’ residence into four Hals, because the plans were not in accordance with the by-laws, .ns the divisional wall must be built of concrete.

‘‘The fire hazard is quite different at present in regard to a building of two storeys,” the letter added, “but when divided into four fiats the hazard is considerably increased.”

The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., .said that when the council .yave permission it fully realised the position. The letter was received.
