BOXING PROMOTION

NOVEMBER TOURNAMENT SPECIAL AMATEUR BOUTS PROFESSIONAL MATCH In view of the important part played by the sport of boxing in the .raining of the army, navy, and air force services, and its recreational value in military camps, the New Zealand Boxing Association has rcinesied all district associations to enioavour to keep the sport going throughout the summer months.

As a result of this request, the coimnit.ee of the Gisborne association held a special meeting last evening, when it was decided to stage a tournament towards the end of November. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. W. Mason, 11. Swan, and A. Toye was appointed to arrange for the selection md training of amateur boxers for he preliminary bouts.

An endeavour is to be made to irrange for two special amateur bouts, he first of which will be the meeting if Darcv Hcenev, Gisborne and W. Little, the Auckland champion who gave Hecnev a hard and exciting contest in the final of the welter division (i! the New Zealand amateur champion.-hip tournament in Invercargill. The other special bout will be arranged between T. Baty, Gisborne, and L. Pennington, the Auckland featherweight champion. The main match of the programme will be a welterweight contest, if the services of Vic Callaux and Jack Davis arc available. Darcy Hceney Congratulated Opportunity was taken by the chairman, Mr. P. If. Hamilton, to offer the association’s congratulations to Darcy Hceney upon his third successive title win at the New Zealand championships. T. Baty, who also represented Gisborne at the tournament, was complimented upon his splendid show-

Re'erencc was made also to the election of Mr. A. S. Parker, formerly president of the Gisborne association. as a member of the New Zealand Boxing Council, an honour not previously bestowed upon any boxing supporter living outside Wellington.

Donations of Cl Is from the Marist Brothers’ Old Beys' Football Club, and Cl 13s from Die Physical Fitness Club, were acknowledged by the kon. treasurer.
