GISBORNE CRICKET

ASSOCIATION MEETS DRAW FOR SATURDAY Matters of interest to followers of cricket in Gisborne were discussed yesterday afternoon at a meeting of the management committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association, there being present Messrs. G. A. Revell, chairman, A. E. Bignall, R l . H. Cook, E. H Bilham, P. H. Dow, C. Fraser, G. E. Slade, and the hon. secretary, Mr. D. A. Wells. An apology for absence was received from the chairman, Mr. J. de V. W. Blathwayt. A letter was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council advising that the Wairoa association had applied for affiliation as a minor association. It was decided to forward the association’s approval of the application. The application of the Poverty Bay Primary Schools’ Sports Association for the use of three wickets on the Oval on Monday of each week was approved, subject to the confirmation of the grounds committee. A protest was received from the United Cricket Club that the same ground fees were charged for the use of the concrete wicket as for the turf wickets, and a suggestion was made that either the fees be reduced or that all teams play an equal number of games on that wicket. The secretary was instructed to advise the club that: the draw was being made so that all teams would play an equal number of games on the concrete wicket. Sole selectors in two of the grades were appointed as follows. —Senior A Grade: Mr. P. H. Dow. Senior B Grade: Mr. R. H. Cook, i It was decided to remind again the players on the concrete wicket that tennis shoes must be worn on that High School ground. The draw for Saturday was made as follows:

Senior B Grade.—United B v. High School B, on the High School bath wicket: Gisborne Club v. G.H.5.0.8. Blue, Oval No. 4; High School A v. City, rectory wicket; United A v. G.H.5.0.8. White, Oval No. 1; Marist v. Civil Service, concrete wicket. Junior Grade.—High School A v. Primary Schools, third bath wicket, High School B v. Marist, Oval representative wicket.
