OPENING CEREMONY
TE KARAKA TENNIS CLUB NEW CUP PRESENTED (Ifprnlrt Correspond cut.) The opening ceremony of the Te Karaka Tennis Club was held on Saturday afternoon in ideal weather. The courts were in excellent order, due largely to the preparation given by the committee during the winter months. The large gathering of members and friends was welcomed by the president. Mr. H. Ruru, who declared the courts open for play and wished the club a successful season. 1 Among the visitors was Mr. Louis Cooper, Gisborne, who presented to the club a handsome silver cup for competition in combined handicap doubles. The cup will be known as the Jack Ruru Memorial Cup, in memory of the late Mr. Jack Ruru, a former member of the club and a well-known sportsman. At the instance of the chairman, Mr. E. Cranswick, three hearty cheers were accorded Mr. Cooper for his generous donation.
A dainty afternoon tea was served by members of the tennis club. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. E. Cranswick, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Brown. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Clarkson, Mr. and Mrs. A. W.
