POWDER EXPLOSION
ONE MAN INJURED When a tin of blasting powder in his hand exploded, Mr. Frederick Harrison, of Carrington road, New Plymouth. received burns to llie face and both forearms, lie and Mr. Roy King were preparing a charge of blasting powder for splitting logs when a lighted match was accidentally dropped on a small amount of powder which had spilled on the ground. There was a flash of flame and a violent explosion, sion. As the tin in Mr. Harrison's hand exploded lie was thrown to th.c ground and his arms and face were scorched Blasting powder normally does noi explode unless tamped down and, ar the spilled powder was Oft away from the tin, it is believed that the explosion was partly caused through, natural gas. An old disused oil bore is not very far from the scene of the explosioi\.
