LAWYER'S PROTEST
PERSECUTION ALLEGED MOTOR CASE DISMISSED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. “I wish to make the strongest protest that this charge should be brought at all. It is a scandalous instance of prosecution developing into persecution,” declared counsel in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when William Connor was charged with supplying false information. , After hearing the evidence the magistrate, Mr. E. C. Levvey, dismissed the charge, saying that it revealed a very grave omission in the regulations. Later he was involved in an accident in which a man was killed and he made a voluntary statement to the police. In this he said he had been driving for 14 years and had never had an accident. Counsel said that Connor was under no obligation to give information, and could only answer questions to the best of his ability. He, submitted there was no case to answer. The case was dismissed.
