FRENCH PARTIES ON WESTERN FRONT

BERLIN VERSION OF UNIT'S COLLAPSE

NAZI LOSSES IN ABORTIVE ATTACKS

(Elec. Tel. Copyright.—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Get. 27. 2.50 p.m.) LONDON. Oct, 26. The Paris correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says that French scouting parties raided the German lines through snow, sleet and heavy rain, seeking prisoners and information regarding the disposition of the German mam forces. Otherwise there was little activity. A night communique issued in Paris states: ‘ There veic three encounters by contact units, with artillery action on both sides at various points.”

A German High Command communique issued in Leilin states: “The enemy tried to recapture a hill west of \oelkingen and attacked in strength, but one battalion collapsed in French territory under our tire; otherwise there was no activity.”

The official French commentator to-day revealed that the German losses in the abortive attack on October 16 and 17 on the Western Front are estimated at between 2000 and 3000. A well-informed source states that train loads of wounded Germans passed through Trier.
