The deputy-Leader oT the Opposition inNhe House of Commons, Mr. A. Greenwood, in. a statement on behalf of the Labour Party with the authority of the Parliamentary Leader, Major C. R. Attlee, says that intense resentment has been created in British Labour circles over propaganda in neutral countries alleging that British workers are unwilling to light and are anxious for peace.
“The workers of Britain are firmly and unalterably determined to end for ever the system of organised gangsterism which has kept Europe in a turmoil for years,” declared Mr. Greenwood.
“British Labour has accepted the challenge thrown down by Herr Hitler. Although outside the Government, the Labour Party is using every endeavour to strengthen its intention of finally crushing Hitlerism. It is supported in this by the Labour Party movements in the Dominions.” The King to-day gave an audience to Mr. Greenwood. It is understood that the audience was arranged in pursuance of the desire of His Majesty to maintain contact with the leaders of the Opposition. Earlier in the week the King received Major Attlee.
