BELGIAN DEFENCE

FIGHT IF NECESSARY STRONGER THAN IN 1914 ROYAL DECLARATION WISH FOR NEUTRALITY • (Reed. Oct. 28, 9 a.m.) BRUSSELS, Oct. 27. King Leopold of Belgium, broadcasting to America from Brussels, declared that neutrality was vital to Belgium.

“Peace is a matter of life and death for us, because, if we become involved, it would be on our soil,” said King

Leopold. “The war would be fought out regardless of the issue meaning our destruction.” He added: "In 1914 our army did its best to arrest the progress of a cruel invasion. If we are attacked again to-day, we will not hesitate to fight with the same conviction, but 10 times more strongly. But we cannot believe that any belligerent will disregard our neutrality.”
