PATRIOTIC SENTIMENT j Patriotic sentiment on the part of! members of the Maori race found an ' opportunity for expression at a meet- ' ing of Maori beneficiaries of the j Mangatu No. 1 block, hold vesterdav ! in the City Ilaii. The East Coast Commissioner, Mr.] J. S. Jessep. referred to the decision ] of the New Zealand Government to accept the oll'cr of the Maori people to raise a unit for service at home or abroad in the present war. He stated that all who took part in the Great War of 1914-18 would remember the wonderful work done by the Maori Pioneer Battalion, and he added that he was confident that the native race of this country would not be behindhand in the present war. The comments of the commissioner j were greeted with acclamation, and ] the meeting spontaneously rose U j sing the National Anthem with en- j thusiasra, .
