OILING THE PIG

CONTROL OF PARASITES

Spreading of a thin film of oil was .a simple method of controlling parasites on pigs, said Mr. T. H. Hankin, Government veterinarian, in an address to Whangarci farmers. If a small quantity was applied periodically to the pig's back, it spread over the body, blocking the breathing apparatus and killing lice and Other vermin. Where animals were too shy for this method of application, old sacks, steeped in old engine oil, could be roped round their favourite rubbing places.

Ordinary fuel oil was best where a dip was required for mange.
