EXPORT TRADE
MAINTENANCE BY U.K.
EVERY EFFORT MADE
Britain’s determination to maintain her export trade despite the war was stressed by the British Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr. R. Boulter, who has returned lo the Dominion after spending nine months’ leave abroad. Mr. Boulter left England to return to his post in New Zealand 10 days after war started. Some months ago Britain was equipped and ready to handle a rapid increase in trade, which would have followed any easing in Die international tension, Mr. Boulter said. The war was inevitably a setback, as the major effort was immediately ebneenterated on the war. Naturally this left a smaller margin for normal production. and there were added handicaps of transport difficulties and higher freight and insurance charges. Nevertheless, it was definitely pari of Britain's policy to use every possible endeavour to maintain her export trade to the itlmosl.
