BIGAMY ADMITTED

OFFENCE BY WOMAN Admitting a charge of bigamy in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court, Mary Jonas, aged 31, a domestic, was committed by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., to the Supreme Court for sentence. Evidence was given by William R. Jonas that he was married to the accused in Christchurch in 1931. Thomas Bolger gave evidence that he met the accused at The Chateau, when she was head waitress there, and went through a form of marriage with her in Gisborne last April. In a statement made to DetectiveSergeant E. H. Compton, and read by him in court, the accused said she knew it was wrong to marry Bolger while Jonas was still alive, but she did not then realise the, seriousness of her action.
