SHOW CATERING

WOMEN’S WAR EFFORT

WIDESPREAD INTEREST

FINE OFFERS OF HELP

FIRMS AND INDIVIDUALS

Reports from members of the various women’s organisations charged with the collection of contributions to the Show catering effort, by which the Poverty Bay Women’s Central Relief Committee will attempt to raise a large sum for patriotic purposes, indicate widespread interest and sympathy for the project. Already the committee has received offers of help from hundreds of women throughout the district, these offers pertaining both to contributions of comestibles for the tables, and to personal service as waitresses or be-hind-the-scenes workers on the two days of the Show. Business firms have come forward voluntarily with gifts of materials suitable for use in catering, and the committee also has received most useful help from the Maori women of the district, who have shown an enthusiasm rivalling that of the keenest of the European community. Mesdames P. Tureia and W. Tamihana have been indefatigable in their efforts on behalf of the committee, as representatives of the Maori women. For those women who are not connected with any of the organisations represented on the central committee, a depot is to be opened at the Gisborne Garage on November 4, and offers of help and actual contributions will be received and acknowledged there. Representatives of the committee have been appointed for the town and suburban districts, to receive offers of assistance, these representatives being:— Town.—-Mrs. I F. Puflett, telephone 398.

Kaiti.—Mrs. Hugh Jones, telephone 1441.

Whataupoko.—Mrs. H. R. Kcndon, telephone 1227. Te Hapara.—Mrs. H. J. Steed, telephone 1709. Mangapapa.—Mrs. R. M. Hewitson. telephone 1263.
