DOMINION WOOL
SALE TO BRITAIN
GROWERS’ OBLIGATIONS
CLIP CLASSIFICATION
MINISTER’S STATEMENT
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day
In regard to the purchase of the wool clip by the United Kingdom Government, the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, said to-day that negotiations arc still proceeding but, in the meantime, there are certain requirements that growers must fulfil to meet the wishes of the United Kingdom Government to make possible the distribution of wool under war-time conditions. These are as follows:
(1) The price paid to the individual grower is to be based on the relative values of grades and classes which have existed in the past.
(2) It is absolutely necessary that farmers should exercise the greatest care in skirting and classifying their wool. Generally, the wool will be appraised on grade, count, yield and get-up and, if any individual clip could not be appraised to comply with he requirements, it would have to be reclassed at the expense of the grower in his own interests as well as in the interest of the Dominion and .he United Kingdom Government. Farmers should see that their wool has been properly prepared before forwarding it to store. To comply with a further requirenent of the British Government, producers must brand bales on one end ind one side only. In accordance vvitli instructions, the other three sides and one end must be lclt untouched.
