JOINED THE ARMY
■The New Zealand professional athlete, A. A. Gilpiore, who made a name for himself by winning the Federation Mile Handicap at Stawell, Australia, fast Easter, in the fast time of 4min. 8 3-ssee. off 40yds., and who was looking forward to competing in New Zealand during the summer month's, will not have his ambition of appearing before a New Zealand public realised this season. Speaking at the annual dinner of the Northern Athletic Union held recently, he intimated that he had joined the Army, and this would prevent him from attacking the world’s record, which he had planned to do next Easter.
