“NO STEPS WHATEVER”

WOOL VALUING CENTRE

HAWKE’S BAY BROKERS HANDLING IN NAPIER (Sprciiil to Ihe TTernM.) NAPIER, this day. The attitude of the Hawke's Bay ,vool-brokers towards the controversy between Gisborne and Napier .in

regard to the centre for the appraisement of Gisborne and East Coast wools was the subject of a statement made by the chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Wool-Brokers’ Association to-day, following a meeting of the association.

“Hawke’s Bay wool-brokers wish to state that a committee of the New Zealand Wool-Brokers' Association has been set up in Wellington to discuss with the Government the question, of marketing and handling wool under the commandeer," the chairman said, “and as far ns Gisborne and Coast wools are concerned the Hawke's Bay brokers have not been consulted as tc whether such wools are to be appraised in Napier cr Gisborne.

••The Hawke’s Bay wool-brokers have not taken any steps whatsoever ,o have the Gisborne and Coast wools diverted to Napier. This is a matter which is entirely in the hands of the Government, and in view of the fact that Gisborne wools were appraised in. Gisborne during the last wool commandeer, brokers in Napier who hove branches in Gisborne are anxiously awaiting instructions from the Government in order to make the necessary arrangements lor the appraising of wool in Gisborne.

“The association rtscnls very much the statements that have been made through the press in Gisborne to the effect that efforts have been made by them to have Gisborne and Coast wools appraised in Napier, such statements arc contrary to fact."
