WAR ON MOTOR BANDITS
One of the best-known chief constables in Britain retired on the last day of September. He is Mr. George Knight. Chief Constable of Hertfordshire. Forty-three years ago Mr. Knight joined the Herts, police as a constable. At his retirement he commanded one of the most efficient forces in Britain. It was 'Mr. Knight who first introduced the system of “frontier posts" at the boundaries of his county at night time, at which all ears entering or leaving were stopped. It annoyed many motorists, but it stamped out motor banditry in Hertfordshire.
