UNIFORMS DELAYED
POSTAL OFFICERS DEFENCE REQUIREMENTS (Per Pros;; Association.) WANGANUI, last night. The Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. ■Jones, stated 10-da.v his attention -had been drawn to a newspaper report from Auckland to the effect that no further articles of uniform clothing were to ire supplied to officers of the host and Telegraph Department until die end r.f the war, until which officers were expected to provide their own clothing. Mr. Jones said the statement contained many inaccuracies.. The true position war, that the uniform requirements of the defence services had delayed the making of supplies of New Zealand cloth for postal garments and also the manufacture of cloth into uniforms. livery effort was being made to overtake the arrears. The department had informed its officers that it would be necessary to revert to ordinary attire if. before the uniform could be replaced, it became too shabby to wear. ' The whole difficulty had been caused by war requirements.
