IMPROVED PRICES

SHEEP AND CATTLE BEEF RATES RECOVER ADDINGTON MARKET (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Values at the Addington stock sale yesterday were slightly better than those of a week ago. About 2000 store sheep were entered, shorn hoggets comprising the bu*k of the entry. Shorn hoggets sold at from 12s to 19s lOd, medium and best woolled hoggets 16s to 28s, ewes and lambs 9s 9d to 15s sd.

About 5000 fat sheep were entered, the majority being ewes. Wethers improved by Is to Is Cd a head on last week, and ewes, particularly shorn ewes, met with an improved market. Extra prime heavy woolly wethers made to 46s 7d, prime heavy 41s to 445, prime medium 35s to 40s, light to 295; extra prime woolly ewes .to 4Gs Id. prime heavy 34s to 38s, prime medium 30s to 335, light to 235.

The fat cattle entry of 340 was the smallest for years at an ordinary sale, The decline of 20s to 30s a head last week was partly offset by the sale today, the average improvement being about 20s a head. Extra prime heavy steers made to £24 2s 6d, prime heavy £l3 to £2O, prime medium £l6 10s to £lB ss, light to £l2 15s; extra (prime heifers made to £l7 7s Gd, prime £ll3 to £l4 10s, medium £ll to £l2 ss, light to £lO 15s; extra prime cows to £ls 12s 6d, prime £ll 5s to £l3 ss, medium £lO to £ll, light to £9 15s.

Again there was a large entry of porkers and last week’s good rates were maintained. Choppers were in good supply and values w&re a good deal easier. Baconers were penned in medium numbers and values were the same as last week. Choppers made from £2 11s to £6 8s 6d; porkers, £2 8s 6cl to £3 5s 6d. The average price was 7Jd to B:]d per lb. Baconers made £3 5s Gd to £5 9s 6d, the average price being 63d to 73d per lb.
