MEMORANDA

The First Church of Christ Scientist, Gisborne, announces a free lecture on Christian Science. "The Science of Christ Healing,” by Colin R. Edison, C.S.. of London, England, to be given at the City Hall on Thursday. October 26, at 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

A concert programme and a sale of work in aid of the Salvation Army self-denial appeal is to be held in the Gisborne Citadel to-morrow evening. This is the final effort in the annual appeal for funds, and an announcement will, be made at the function of the result of the appeal. OPERA HOUSE GREAT NORTH CHINA TROUPE TO-MORROW NIGHT The Great North China Troupe is headed for Gisborne, opening at the Opera House to-morrow for three nights and a matinee. Advance reports state that the Great Nortn China Troupe present the ultimate in fastmoving and thrilling entertainment. Whirlwind acrobats, death-defying balancers, amazing fire-eaters, singers and dancers al! combine to provide one end a quarter hours of refreshingly “different” vaudeville variety. Included in the troupe is Chin Chin, a glamorous girl who performs the unique Chinese fan dance, never before seen outside the Far East, and the difficult and dangerous Oriental sword dance. There is also Herbert Young, internationally known as tile Chinese Bobby Breen, who, although only nine years of age, will enchant audiences with his magnificent soprano voice. The sumptuous stage settings and the colourful costumes are a feature of the show. The Great North China Troupe has appeared by Royal command before Their Majesties King George and Queen Elizabeth. Supporting this attraction arc six English and Continental specialty acts from the leading theatres of the world. The box plans for the season arc open at Tattersall and Bayly’s.
