NURSING STAFF
BOARDING-OUT PLAN EMERGENCY NEEDS REPORT FROM MATRON Further reference to the difficulties experienced in accommodating the nursing staff at the Cook Hospital was made in a special report made to yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Cook Hospital Board by the lady superintendent, Miss G. M. Leipst.
“With the opening of the isolation block, and the need for finding accommodation for the seven nurses who have been occupying one end of the building, I have been faced with an urgent problem,” said Miss Leipst.
“The domestic accommodation above the hospital kitchen has been made available and it will be possible to accommodate nine nurses there. At the present there arc two nurses and three maids in these quarters. It is proposed to transfer the nurses occupying the quarters above the nurses’ home kitchen to the quarters above the hospital kitchen, and transfer the maids from the hospital kitchen accommodation to the nurses’ home kitchen accommodation. Three maids are required to live in.
“With the urgent move in the past week, it was necessary to allow three staff nurses to live out, and it would now be possible for these three nurses to be accommodated in the hospital. Two of them, however, are leaving at the end of the month, and I would suggest that they be allowed to live out until completion of their services. New nurses who replace the two leaving, of course, would be found accommodation in the hospital.
Nurse Staffing
“Tutor Sister.—lt is possible that Sister Martin will be leaving to lake up an appointment with the Waikato Hospital Board. This cannot yet be confirmed. In the event of her taking up this appointment, I would recommend that Sister D. Burrows be appointed as tutor sister in her place.
“Home Sister.—Sister Hail having been called up for military service, I recommend in her absence that Sister Runciman be appointed temporarily as home sister.
‘ Diet Sister. I would recommend that Sister T. Ward be appointed temporary diet sister in place of Sister Runciman, acting home sister.
“Theatre Sister.—Sister V. Bradncy, now Sister Hart, recently married, intends to resign from her position as theatre sister on completion of her annual leave. This will necessitate the appointment of a theatre sister in her place. I have conferred with the medical superinlciidcnl, and wo suggest communicating with Miss Lambic in this connection.”
The board left to the chairman and the managing secretary to arrange a suitable boarding-out allowance lor nurses in case of necessity.
