MISSING PROSPECTOR
MERCURY BAY SEARCH MAN 70 YEARS OF AGE (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Since Sunday the police and residents in the Mercury Bay district have been searching for a prospector, Mark Madill, aged 70 years, who was last seen about five weeks ago.
For some years Mr. Madill has lived in a shack in the Angihau district, which is 17 miles from Whitianga. The disappearance of Mr. Madill was reported by his nearest neighbour, W. H. Fielding, who is a farmer. As he had not seen Mr. Madill for some time Mr. Fielding visited the shack. He found Mr. Madill’s best suit there, but his spade, kit and axe were missing.
A search party led by Constable Rose was out on Sunday and Monday, but could find no trace of Mr. Madill. The search was continued yesterday without result. A camp has been set up by Constable Rose and a further search is being made.
