RACEHORSE’S FATE
END OF REAY BRIDGE The enjoyment of many patrons n( yesterday's races at Makaraka was clouded by incidents connected with 'he destruction of the well-known, racehorse Ilcay Bridge, which suf‘'ered a broken fetlock in the running of the Hexton Handicap.
The necessity of putting an. animal out of pain occurs infrequently dur:ng race meetings, but it is nevertheless an event for which proper provision is generally, made. The manner in which Reav Bridge was disposed of yesterday saddened manv who recognised fully the difficulties attendant upon the occasion.
The experience was one which must have made members of racing bodies in the district resolve to provide bettor for such contingencies in the future.
