JOSS BURNING BAN
The time-honoured Chinese practice of binning joss papers to propitiate the gods is forbidden in an order issued by the Ministry of flic Interior of Chungking. General wartime economy, and particularly tiie shortage of paper, inspired the order. The Ministry of the Interior has instructed various pro- ; vincial Governments to see that the populace gives up burning joss paper. 1
