The Matawai School Committee wrote asking when work would begin ! on the footpath to the Matawai j School. —The matter was referred to j the county engineer, Mr. A. G. Lucas, j for attention.

Semple, replying | to representations made on behalf of | i Mr. Stanley Swarbrick, Otoko, who j ; asked that a number of men should be j retained on subsidy from the Employ- j | mciU Department 1o attend to addi-1 I lional improvements on his access j road. It was indicated that the conn- j cil was attending to work on the road j with subsidies from the Labour De- j partment, and he could make no de- j j Unite arrangements for the work, j The Minister of Public Works, in a j j letter through Mr. Huitquist, advised j that £SDO had been placed on the | supplementary estimates for the formation of llangatira road and £SOO, j £1 for £l. for widening Armstrong | road.-—No provision had been made ; for the Wharckopae bridge, and the | council agreed to make a further re- ; quest on ihe matter, j jj • The Minister of Lands, the Hon. ance to safeguard their properties from flooding.
