DOG REGISTRATION
STRICTER MEASURES ACTION IN WAIKOHU (Special to the Herald.) TE KARAKA, this day. Stricter measures for the collection of clog taxes were decided upon by the Waikohu County Council to-day, when it was agreed that cattle dogs must be registered at the higher fee of 10s, the rate fixed for non-working dogs. Mr. J. K. Briant, Matawai, wrote suggesting that if the council insisted that all dogs were registered under the proper heading and fees paid under the proper heading, such action would assist in getting rid of many useless dogs. He claimed that numbers of dogs in the district that did not even remotely resemble sheep and cattle dogs were registered as such. ■Mr. Briant also suggested that the dog-tax collector should be paid a premium on dogs registered as sheep and cattle dogs. The county clerk, Mr. J. G. Appleton, reported that only about 40 dogs were registered at the higher fee. Councillors agreed that there must be more non-working dogs in the county than the number quoted by the county clerk. It was agreed that all clogs, other
than sheep-dogs, should be registered I at the 'higher fee. It was explained : that the resolution excluded cattle, dogs, w'hich must be paid for on the j basis of a non-working clog. Cl’. H. J. F.
