“NUISANCE WHEN DRUNK”
LABOURER CONVICTED
“This man makes a 1 nuisance of himself when he is drunk by standing in small streets and stopping traffic and also by frightening*women,” said Senior-Sergeant J. F. H. Macnamara this morning in the Police Court when Patrick Cahill, aged 55. a labourer, appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., on a charge of drunkenness.having thrice previously been convicted of similar offences in the past six months.
The accused was convicted and fined £2, in default two weeks' imprisonment, a month being allowed in which to pay the fine.
The police said Cahill had 27 previous convictions againstffiis name, most of them covering drunkenness.
“I met a friend and we had some drinks, which upset me. I am not on the drink every day,’’ said the accused When asked if he wished to make any explanation.
'Mr. Luxford: No, I notice there are a few days in between the dates of your list of previous convictions.
The accused explained that he had several private jobs on hand and made an appeal not to be sent to Rotoroa Island, which was granted by Flis Worship.
