SHORTAGE OF LABOUR
DAIRYMEN’S TROUBLES
NATIONAL REGISTER
The dairy-farmer's troubles in ob
tnining labour were referred to several times at a meeting of the Wnirarapa provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in Masterton. It was staled by one farmer that men on public work.: near his farm worked live hour;; a day while he was working 11. “If I could get reasonable labour it would be all right,” he said, “but 1 cannot possibly pay 18s a day.” “The dairy-farmer is in a bad way for getting labour at present,” said the chairman, Mr. 11. Morrison. “More men are being sent to camp from the country than from the towns, and tile drain cannot continue.” Mr. H. J. Bremner then moved that a recommendation be forwarded to the Government “that a national register of the man-power of the Dominion be instituted immediately v/ith a view to a classification of what labour is available for the essential industries.” The motion was carried.
