THE WEATHER
Last Night’s Forecast General situation: A bell of high pressure is situated to the north, while a series of weak westerly depressions is passing in the south.
Forecast: Winds from a westerly ([liarter. north-westerly predominating east of the ranges and south-westerly to westerly elsewhere, mainly moderate but strong at times in exposed positions. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rather rough on the West Coast, slight to moderate on the East Coast.
Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh to strong westerly winds; seas moderate in the north, rough elsewhere. Weather: Fair to fine east of the ranges, otherwise rather changeable, with rain at times, but falls only light and scattered in western districts of the North Island. Temperatures: Mild in the east, moderate elsewhere.
To-day’s North Island Report
Blue skies were general along lire Bast Coast from Wellington to Cape Maria Van Diemen this morning and temperatures were mild. The barometric pressure at most points was steady and the winds were mainly westerly. The highest temperature was.fit* degrees at Castlepoint and Cape Palliser. while oilier readings were: Wellington and Tauranga, 58 degrees: Auckland, 57: Opotiki, 52; and Gisborne. 51. The sea was rough at Wellington and Castlepoint, but elsewhere smooth to moderate. Midday Forecast General situation. —Pressure continues high to the north and is rising in the far south following the passage of a westerly depression.
Forecast. —'Light to fresh north-west to south-west winds. Weather line and mild. Slight to moderate seas.
