Tests for Intoxication

The importance of having on hand a second medical man in cases of charges of intoxication in charge of a motor car was stressed by Mr. G. M. Lloyd in the Dunedin City Police Court when appearing in connection with such an ofTence. “The charge is regarded so seriously nowadays,” he said, “that it is important that an independent medical test should be immediately available. In this case it was, a full hour before the accused’s request for another doctor could be carried out." He suggested that other doctors could be on call on a panel system and that such additional expert testimony would be of value to the court and to the accused alike. The magistrate, Mr. H. W. Bundle. S.M., remarked that he had listened to counsel’s remarks with interest.
