FAVOURITES’ DAY
PHENOMENAL RUN TRAINER’S SIX WINS NATIVE SONG WON WELL By “Trenton” The favourite division had a field day at Makaraka yesterday, six out of seven being returned winners. Mr. E. Fitzgerald supplied five winners, while trainer I. Tinsley went one belter. E. Baker was the most successful rider with three winners.
Small Boy may have been much harder to beat in the hurdles had he not hit the second fence from home very hard.
•Whetu may have been closer in the hurdles with a more experienced rider in the saddle.
Birkology won well and is very fit. Native Song will take all sorts of beating in any class he contests on Saturday or Monday.
Bold Step should be improved by his race in the Flying Handicap. De Friend won the Makaraka Handicap with case. Native Chief made up a lot of ground to win the Endeavour Scurry. Millions did not get the best of the start, and No Wonder lost a lot of ground when she ran wide entering the straight. Both should improve. Quebn’s Dream and Lovelilt had a great battle in the Roseland Hack and the latter will be strongly fancied if she parades in the Hunt Cup next Monday.
Smiling Personality made her record three firsts and a dead-heat lor first out of five starts when she scored in the October Hack yesterday.
Proclamation was the unlucky runner in the last race. He must have lost half-a-dozen' lengths when he struck trouble turning across the top. However, he finished full of running to be two lengths from the winner at the post.
