RUATORIA GOLF

SEASON V/OUND UP TROPHIF.S PRESENTED (Herald t’orrespomlent.) The 1939 golfing season was brought to a close in Ruatoria last week-end, when despite the showery weather, there was a large attendance of visitors and members. A mixed foursome was played, after which a delicious afternoon lea was served in the hotel commercial room, the tables being artistically arranged with howls of long-stemmed Iceland poppies and other spring blooms. ‘Mr. P. To Wai. the club captain, welcomed the visitors, some of whom came from as far as Tokomaru Bay and Waipirn Bay. Mr. To Wai said thal the standard of play had improved considerably. On behalf of the club lie paid a tribute to the good work performed by Mr. J. Hogan in keeping the greens in such excellent order, ■he having given his services free. Mr. To Wai also thanked Mrs. Edward Williams and Mrs. J. Hogan for their willing help to the club. On behalf of the club, Mr. Te Wai thanked Mr. and Mrs. Burton for the use of their room at all times and for their most generous hospitality. Mrs. P. G. Burton, the ladies’ club captain, who presented the trophies, congratulated ' the winners and expressed the club’s thanks for the trophies which had been given. On behalf of the members, Mrs. Burton thanked the secretary. Mr. W. I-I. O. Johnston, for the efficient manner in which he had carried out his duties. Trophy Winners Following are the trophy winners for the season:— Senior Championship, Burton Cup.— P. Te Wai. Junior Championship, Beveridge Cup.—JM. Glenn. Williams and Kettle Cup—J. E. F. Sharland. Ladies’ Championship, Morrow Cup. —Mrs. C. Rawson. Junior Championship, Smyth Cup.— Miss M. Wehipeihana. Most Improved Player, Mrs Burton’s trophy.—Mrs. H. F. Smyth.
