The Ministry ol' Labour announced that representatives of the British Employers’ Confederation and the general council of the Trades Union Congress met to-day to consider the establishment of machinery for the joint discussion of problems which confront the Government and industry j in war-time. It was agreed, subject on the part J of the Trades Union Council to con- j firmation by the general council, to \ set up a national joint council to j advise on all matters in which the j employers and workers have a j common interest, it being understood that the council would be purely ad- j visory and would not invade the j jurisdiction of the organisations in the; respective industries. The council will consist of 15 from each side with the Minister of Labour, Mr. Ernest Brown, as chairman.
