AUSTRALIAN NAVY UNITS j 30 VESSELS EQUIPPED (Reed. Oct. 19, 2 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 19. In a review of naval activities in Australia since the outbreak of war, the Minister of Defence, Mr. G. A. Street, said the Royal Australian Navy had taken over more than 30 merchant vessels which were being used as armed merchant cruisers and minesweepers. Many merchant ships had been also fitted with guns. All warships that i were on the reserve before the war are now in commission.
