OUT-OF-SCHOOL WORK

PUPILS’ ACTIVITIES In reviewing out-of school activities at the Gisborne High School. Mr. J. Hutton, rector, made the following statement to the Board of Governors last evening:— “The school sports proved a success, very creditable organisation being provided by the joint efforts of Messrs. Stacey and Adams and Miss Hayes, assisted by the rest of the staff. Both girls and boys gave displays oi physical drill. “The Old Students’ Association provided a social evening for a group of 150 present pupils on the evening of sports day and this was much appreciated by all who attended. “The next out-of-school function is the house dramatic fixture, which is arranged for October 27. This is the third annual fixture of this character, and preparation for it provides a valuable" out-of-class interest promoted by a group of lady teachers. “Debating and dramatic work constitute a very valuable factor in a good school training, and the efforts made in these directions by both senior and junior pupils under the various teachers’ direction are to be commended. They are indicative of a freer type of education."
