Last Night’s Forecast General situation: The deep depression centred to the, south ol the Dominion is moving slowly eastward, and the situation is developing into more of a westerly type. Forecast: Some local north-wester-lies, especially east of the ranges; otherwise moderate to strong westerly ! o south-westerly winds predominating. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rough on the West Coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; moderate elsewhere, but rising somewhat south of East Cape. Eastern Tasman: Winds from a westerly quarter, moderate in the north, with moderate seas; strong to gale force in the south, with rough seas. Weather: Changeable and rather squally, with showers at times in most districts, but chiefly in those with a westerly aspect and in the far south. Temperatures: Moderate to cool. To-day’s North Island Report The weather conditions along the East Coast to-day were much brighter Ilian those of yesterday and Auckland and Wellington were the only centres that reported overcast skies. Practically no rain had fallen overnight and tlie barometric pressure had shown a rise on yesterday's readings. After several windy days Wellington reported calm conditions, while elsewhere light westerlies predominated. The temperatures were: Napier and Cape Palliscr, 59; Wellington, 58; Auckland and Opotiki, 55, Gisborne, 51. There was a moderate swell at Cape Maria Van Diemen and Castlepoint, but the other stations .reported ,smooth to slight seas. Midday Forecast General situation. —The situation is of the westerly type, with pressure high in the north and lower in the south. Forecast.—Moderate to fresh northwest to south-west winds. Weather fair to fine and mild. Seas moderate.
