22 U-BOATS SUNK

ESTIMATE BY FRENCH GREEK STEAMER LOST (Reed. Oct. 18. 9 a.m.) LONDON. Oct. 17. A report from Paris says it is officially stated that at least one of the submarines responsible for the sinking of French ships over the weekend has been sunk. A radio broadcast states that the total German submarines sunk is 22. A message from Copenhagen says that a German pilot boat was blown up when she hit a German mine south of Oresund. Some of the crew were rescued. The Danish steamer Silicien _ arrived at Stornoway with 27 survivors from a Greek ship which was sunk by a submarine in the Atlantic Two members of the crew were killed and seven of the survivors were injured. A Belgian oil tanker landed 32 members of the crew of the British steamer Sneaton, which was sunk by a submarine in the Atlantic last Saturday. A fireman was killed.
