POULTRY HOUSES
INSPECTIONS START MANY INFRINGE BY-LAWS WARNING TO RESIDENTS A warning to residents contemplating the erection of poultry houses and runs was issued at. a meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council last night. The town clerk, Mr, W. M. Jenkins, said he wished to remind residents contemplating such construction to ascertain from the sanitary inspector the requirements of the council’s bylaws. "The isnpector is making a house-to-house inspection,” Mr. Jenkins added, "and has found in many instances poultry-houses and runs erected contrary to the by-laws, particularly in regard to the distance from the dwelling house and boundary fences.”
“This is a matter that we cannot enforce too rigidly, because we cannot allow the fowls to be a nuisance to neighbours,” said the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., “but residents can be assured that the by-laws will be enforced reasonably.”
