CONTROL OF PRICES

STEPS IN BRITAIN FINES FOR PROFITEERING Severe penalties for profiteering are included in the Bill for the Control of Prices which came before the House of Commons in London last week and passed its first reading. The main object of the bill is to prevent the sale of certain goods at prices which cannot be justified despite increased costs. These costs are specified in the bill. The regulations will be enforced by a Central Price Control Committee. The maximum penalty for a breach of the regulations is three months’ imprisonment or a fine of £ 100, or both, on summary conviction, or two years’ imprisonment or a fine of £SOO, or both, on indictment. —By Radio.
