HALL COMMITTEE ANNUAL MEETING (Herald Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Motu Hall Committee was held on Saturday night, the attendance being disappointing. Mr. R. S. Fisher presided. The annual report was adopted, and the committee was complimented on the amount of work and the improvements which had been carried out ■‘The improvements which havo been carried out have been extensive, the work being carried out by Messrs R. S. and F. Fisher, G. O. Donovan hnd T. Jackson,” staled the report. “The expenditure amounted to approximately £62, this amount being raised by local art unions and a series of euchre tournaments. There is now a credit balance of £9.” The report went on to state that the library, which was controlled by the members of the 'Women’s Institute, had been a boon to the community, the number of books being 400, and extra books were procurable from the Government travelling library service. Mrs. A. W. Thomson was the librarian. The election of officers resulted:— Chairman, Mr. R. S. Fisher.; hon. secretary and treasurer, Miss P. Twisleton; committee, MesdameS 11. L. Twisleton and A. W. Thomson. Messrs. W. J Reed, T. Jackson and *D. Doole.
Votes of thanks for assistance were passed to the Women's Institute. Mr. F. Fisher, Miss Una Reed, Mr. A. C. Stratford, and Mr. and Mrs. C. G Anderson. Mr. W. J. Reed proposed a voro of thanks to Mrs. W. A. Wright, the retiring secretary, and to the chairman. Mr. T. Jackson consented to continue as caretaker, he also being accorded a vote of thanks for his efficient work during iris term of office. Euchre Tournament The final euchre tournament in the series arranged by the hall committee was held on Saturday night, following the annual meeting, and a dance, in aid of the local school funds, was enjoyed by a number of young people. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Reed won the trophies presented by Mr. L. M. Davis for the highest aggregate scores, with Mrs. Wright and Mr. R. S. Fisher second. Mrs. W. J. Reed and Mr. Fisher held the highest score cards on the evening’s play, with Mrs. F. Read and Mr. F. Donaldson second Miss Una Reed played the dance music on the piano and piano-accordion, and Mr. H. Brightson played extras. Miss Betty Henderson, who is a trainee at the Karitane Hospital, Wanganui, is spending a holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Henderson, Whaknrau. News has been received th~t Mr. Garth Dulton is in camp near Auckland, but he expects to go to Wellington shortly to take a special course for a commission in the army.
