RIFLE SHOOTING
WAIAPU DEFENCE CLUB ANNUAL MEETING (Herald Correspondent.) A meeting of the management committee of the Waiapu Defence Rifle Club was held in the Manutahi Hotel, Ruatoria, last Saturday. Those present were Messrs, J. H. Taplin, president. in the chair, T. Lister, M. Gudgeon, E. Garth, T. Snelling, A, Brownlie, G. Brownlie, R. W. Ford, P. Barrett, R. Kemp, G. Cotterill, E. R. Young, E. H. Morice, and A. W. Kirk, secretary. Information was received from the defence headquarters, Gisborne, that the issue of ammunition to members of rifle clubs had been restricted to 100 rounds, ancl also trial the sale of rifles and the fitting of rifle barrels was suspended. It was decided that the opening shoot should take place at Labour Day week-end, and that the Gisborne Rifle Club members should be invited to attend. It was decided that £1 would be donated towards a gift which the Women’s Institute .was organising for the men enlisting from the district.
