FISH RETAILING INDUSTRY APPLICATIONS FOR LICENSES is hereby given that pursuant to the provisions of the Industry Licensing (Fish Retailing) Notif:? 1 . 1939, pi) persons who are engaged in the above industry are required to obtain licenses from the Bureau of Industry to continue carrying on the industry on and after Ist January, 1940. The above Notice further requires that such applications must be lodged with the Bureau of Industry on or before the Ist November, 1939.

Application forms may be obtained from the office of the Department of Industries and Commerce at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. In the above-mentioned Licensing Notice —“Fish’’ includes every species of fish and shell-fish found in New Zealand waters, ' except trout and oysters; and includes- such fish, whether fresh, fresh-frozen, smoked or cooked, but does not include such fish when preserved in cans, jars, or other hermetically sealed containers or when dried and salted; or when comprised in a meal served in a restaurant for consumption on the premises; or if smoked when sold by a person whose business does not consist for the greater part in the retail sale of fish; and the . term “Sale” (without prejudice to the generality thereof) includes sale by auction and sale by hawking. TAKING OF FISH FOR SALE APPLICATIONS FOR LICENSES XrOTICE is hereby given that, pur- ■*■’ suant to the provisions of the Industry Licensing (Fishing) Notice, 1939, all persons who are engaged in the above industry are required to obtain licenses from the Bureau of Industry to continue carrying on the industry on and after the Ist of January, 1940. The above Notice further requires that such applications must be lodged with the Bureau of Industry on or before the Ist November, 1939. In the above-mentioned Licensing Notice “Fish” includes every descriptin of fish and shell-fish found in New Zealand waters except trout, whitebait and oysters. “Taking” means taking or attempting to take by the use of a fishingboat or by the use of equipment, or by both. ■’■Fishing-boat” includes any vessel of whatsoever size and however propelled used in the said industry. “Equipment” includes every type of fishing-net or fishing-line used in the said industry, and in particular includes Danish-seine nets, purse-seine nets, trawl nets, set nets, drag nets, and long and hand lines of every description. “Fisherman” includes any person engaged in the said industry, whether full time or part time, whose remuneration is in the form of wages or a share of the profits or both; but does not include any person employed wholly as an engineer engaged only in connection. with the propellingmachinery of any fishing-boat, of as a fireman or as a cook.
