Higher Taxi Fares
Though the Wanganui City Council has granted taxi-drivers permission to increase fares by 3d a trip, the increase cannot he imposed until authority is received from the Minister of Industries and Commerce. The secretary of the Wanganui Taxi Proprietors’ Association. Mr. C. 11. Fraser, said that not only had the price of petrol gone up as a result of the war tax, but costs of maintenance and tyres also had risen. He estimated that since November last taxi costs had increased 12 to 15 per cent.
