OPENING OF SEASON RECORD ATTENDANCE WELCOME TO VISITORS (Herald Correspondent.) There was a record attendance at the Te Karaka bowling green on Saturday afternoon, when the opening ceremony was held. Threatening weather conditions which prevailed in the morning cleared somewhat in the afternoon, but there was a definite coolness in the atmosphere. The greens were in good condition and, though slightly heavy, were true. Representatives of the Poverty Bay Centre and of all-the Gisborne clubs and the Patutahi club were present, in addition to To Karaka residents. The visitors were welcomed by the To Karaka president, Mr, A. E. Buckingham, who expressed pleasure at their attendance and mentioned that his club had good prospects for a successful season. Mr. A. Slight, on behalf of the visiting clubs, returned thanks and extended their good wishes. Speaking for the Poverty Bay centre, Mr. Popple, congratulated Te Karaka bowlers on their successful function and the condition of the greens. Mi". A. E. Buckingham, wife of Uic president, then threw the first japlf of the season and trailed it with (he first bowl, after which the greens were declared open. Afternoon tea was served in the shelter of flic pavilion by Te Karaka ladies. Among those present were Mesdames A. E. Buckingham, C. Bull, Corlct, Vail, McLoughlin, D. Craill, M. D.
