GOLF FINALS

TURANGANUI TITLES P. KAUA MEN’S LEADER MRS. BULLIVANT AGAIN HARD-FOUGHT MATCHES All finals in the Turanganui Golf Club's championship series were disposed of during the week-end. P. Kaua defeating R. Keiha for the men's championship, and Mrs. W. E. Bullivant retaining the ladies’ B section championship. Both games ended on the thirty-fourth green, and the ladies’ final in particular was hardfought all the way. The ladies' finalists were Mrs. Bullivant and Mrs. R. Robb, and play was of a high standard. Consistency with her short work round the greens was a feature of Mrs. Bullivant’s exposition. and her opponent played some fine strokes from the tee and through the fairway, though lapses on and about the greens proved costly to her. In the morning round the titleholder secured a lead, finishing the round 3 up on her opponent, and opening the second round she extended it to 4 up. The twentieth was halved in fours, and Mrs. Robb fought back hard, winning the next three in great style. She then suffered a putting lapse, and lost the next to her steady opponent, who, however, dropped the next when she. too, went to pieces on the green. This lapse was temporary, however, and Mrs. Bullivant went on to take the twentyseventh with a par four, and also the twenty-eighth. The next three were halved in par figures, and with five to play Mrs. Robb was still 3 down. She took the thirty-second nicely with a four, and halved the next. Mrs. Bullivant played a solid three at the thirty-fifth and took the hole, and the match, 3 and 2. Comfortable Victory The ladies’ C section final was between Mrs. N. Cram and Miss P. A. Breck. over 18 holes. Mrs. Cram made a great start and won the first four holes, but her opponent steadied down and took the next three. Mrs. Cram maintained her position, 1 up, to the turn, and at the tenth Miss Breck’s putting failed, allowing her opponent to extend her lead. At the sixteenth the position was the same, and Mrs. Cram there secured her victory with a nicely-played three against Miss Breck’s four, winning 3 and 2. The men's A section final, over 30 holes, was won by P. Kaua, who defeated R'. Keiha. In the morning round Kaua finished one up, and by consistently sound play gradually increased this advantage to the thirtyfourth. where he won 3 and 2. • In the men’s B section final, over 18 holes, R. Gordon defeated N. Williams. There was not much between the finalists at any stage, but Williams made errors in his short work, and missed out on some fairly difficult putts, Gordon playing a steady game and eventually winning 3 and 2. In the men’s bogey competition, played on the Turanganui links during the week-end, R. Robb (handicap 8) handed in the best card, 2 up on “the colonel," and was closely followed by D. B. Tennant (handicap 12), 1 up. PARK LADIES’ MEDAL ROUND Members of the ladies’ section of the Gisborne Park Golf Club are to arrange partners this week for a medal round.
